Question Poor Communication

Hey All!

I am not sure if there is anything I can do but I thought I would try here. We are adopting a little girl who will be three in about three months. She was evaluated for speech issues and was found to not be eligable for any therapies. She has enough words and can follow directions.

My problem is she does not use words when she really needs to. She wnts something she does not ask, she just cries. We ask her to "use her words" and she just stares at us or cries. She was exposed to cocaine in utero and I am not sure if that could mess with her ablity to communication properly. I am just not sure how to get her to talk more, to actually communicate. We talk with her all the time and read to her every night. What else can we do?

Thanks for reading!
Take care

Control

Ok....I know some people have read this....I went to the doctor today with little B. The doctor said her not wanted to talk is a control issue. She only wants to talk when she wants to talk. If she does not start talking more and having better communication skills I should have her re-evaluated for speech delays. I guess I just have to wait and see....like everything else in my life.

Take Care All!
