Our my expectations realistic?
My husband and I are trying to decide where we will adopt from for adoption #2.
I really like the idea of Kyrgyz. it suits our needs. Here's the thing. We would most likely request a caucasian girl as young as possible. I know that we would wait longer for a referral, since that isn't majority of kids available, but am I setting myself for a LONG wait - like more than 9 mos of a wait? I can handle waiting, but we don't want to wait forever.

I'm sorry, I can't answer, but at the orphanage my daughter came from, I didn't see any caucasian looking babies (a few older kids, yes). But - the family that was travelling with me adopted a 5 mo boy with light brown hair and large, slightly almond shaped eyes. He just looks a bit exotic. He is gorgeous!
The kids look Asian in varying degrees - look at the pics of my daughter on this board - her eyes are quite Asian, some are just slightly Asian. My guess would be, if you are waiting for a blond haired blue eyed baby girl, you will wait a long time. They do exist, I saw them outside of the orphanage - but they are few and far between. I would call every agency that has a Kyrg program and ask how long! Good luck to you, it's a great country to adopt from! The kids are beautiful, and the ones from Bella's orphanage are very healthy! |

We really aren't expecting blonde-haired blue eyed, our DD from Russia doesn't fit that description. We just always felt that we didn't want to have to be the obvious family through adoption, and now that we have one already, we wouldn't want our other child to always be questioned and not the other.
I've spoken with the agencies we are considering and they said it is possible, but to expect to wait. I guess what I'm wondering is if anyone has adopted a caucasian child from Kyrgyz, then how long was the wait ofr referral?

Hi Jen,
This is a coincidence. My husband and I just adopted a little boy from Haiti, but the Kyrgyz name caught my eye on this forum. Two very good friends of mine are in Kyrgyzstan right now (Peace Corp.). Every picture I've seen shows the children there to be rather Asian in appearance. If you'd like to email my friends for their view, contact me at candisgillett@hotmail.com and I can give you their email address in the Kyrgyz Republic. |

I haven't seen or heard yet of a caucasian baby from Kyrgyzstan, most of the kids are eurasian or all ethnic kyrgyz. Is adopting from Russia again out of the question? Also, come join our yahoo group.

Thanks, I am actually on the Yahoo group already.
From what the agencies tell me, in Bishkek there is a small percentages of kids that are caucasian. In fact I've seen a few on some of the photolistings. Russia isn't out of the question, my DH actually wants to go back, but I want to go to Kyrgyz. We arevery torn right now. I would gladly adopt a eurasian child, just not sure how open dh is.
