Restrictions on wife being older than husband?
I have been researching Korean adoptions and have talked to Holt and WACAP. We are trying to move to Atlanta and had to find an agency that placed Korean children in the state. One of the only two agencies in Georgia that place Korean children just told me that the wife can only be 3 years older than the husband. I had never heard that restriction before. Has anyone else come across this? Neither Holt or WACAP has that listed on their very long list of Korea restrictions....

I haven't heard of that restriction. I find it hard to believe though..... I am 5+ years older than my husband and it was never an issue.

I talked to Holt and they said they only worry at 10 years or more for their Korean program, but the only agency we can find that places Korean babies in Georgia refuses wives more than 3 years older than the husband.
Quite discouraged that these agencies have such wide degrees os variance in what is and isn't acceptable. Thanks for your reply. |

Wow! This surprises me. I'm about 7 years older than DH and we got our referral from Korea in July.
This makes me wonder if the same age restrictions would hold true for the husband if he were older. I mean, can he only be 3 years older than his wife? It seems oddly arbitrary (and perhaps a bit sexist)!

I believe it agency-specific. I even asked about getting a waiver and they wouldn't grant it.
I was turned onto another agency that places in Georgia but with a previous divorce, we have to wait until Dec 2012 before we can file everything. And by the looks of the Korea program, that most likely will be too late. I'm heartbroken. |
