Questions

Hello,

My husband and I are in the process of adopting an infant from Colombia. Due to increasing wait times, we have decided to pursue dual adoptions. We are currently researching Taiwan, Ethoipia and now Korea. I have read that Korea will stop adoptions in 2012.

How long are current wait times for healthy infants? We think we have about 3 years to go for Colombia and would like over 1 year between children. How have things been moving lately?

Thank you
Shonda

Hi,
Call the agencies that work in your state and tell them about your situation. Some agencies might not allow dual adoptions and at least one other Korea agency is no longer accepting new families for non special needs. I would say that it is unlikely that you would be able to get a reliable answer through the internet, as each state has slightly different agencies and wait times.

I agree with Max'smom's post. Some agencies have stopped taking new applications, but haven't officially closed down their program. Other agencies continue to take new applications. It's state/agency specific, so you might find better advice from the agencies. Good luck!

Just want to point out that agencies may not be taking more applicants not because of a potential closing of adoptions from Korea, but rather because many IA parents are choosing Korea vs China because of the longer wait for a China referral.

The wait times also depend on which agency in Korea your US agency uses for Korean adoptions.
