Quesiton about anti-anxiety meds
My husband and I just decided to adopt from Korea (Yay!!!!) but I have one question that I am hoping some of you may be able to answer. Our adoption coordinator mentioned that neither of us can be taking any anti-depressant or anti-anxiety meds. My husband takes anti-anxiety meds as needed. We are so excited about the Korea program and fit the bill in every other way...we are just not sure how to handle this. We didn't mention anything to the coordinator...should we? I am not sure when this would come up during the process or, quite honestly, how they would know. We don't want to be dishonest but it seems like such a minor thing to us (we are 2 working professionals, have a nice home, a great marriage, and lots of love to give)

Hi,
You will need to disclose this, unless your physician is willing to cover this up for you. Most are not. My memory is that the medical form you need your physician to fill out asks whether you are on any meds. MM |

You definitely need to be upfront and honest about that. Ask if that's country specific or agency specific. If it's agency specific, then perhaps you can switch agencies. If it's country specific, you may need to switch programs. Their rules and regulations need to be followed and respected. It might seem minor to you, but not so minor to Korea.

They ask specific questions to the doctor filling out the medical release form and it really needs to be disclosed. Medication like that can be a really big deal for Korean agencies. I'm sure the coordinator assumed someone applying to for the Korean program wouldn't be taking that type of medication.
Maybe you can have a doctor write a letter that everything is under control. I am sure there are other families that have adopted from Korea in similar situations....I would search on the Holt message boards and this forum. |
