Need your help on a few questions
Hi everyone,
My husband and I are researching adoption from Korea and I was hoping someone may have an agency recommendation for Michigan. I know there are only 3 agencies (I believe) that do adoptions from Korea in Michigan...has anyone worked with AIAA? Also, we have been trying to decide between adopting from Korea versus China. Both are attractive to us and I didn't know if anyone on here has any pros/cons/differences we should consider. I know China has a longer wait right now and I know there are more girls available in China and more boys available in Korea. Plus I know Korean babies can be escorted to the U.S. Anything else we should consider related to health of babies, care they are given, etc.? Thanks for any and all responses. Kindly, Debbie |

One basic difference is that Korean children are mostly in foster care settings vs. orphanages in China.

Jen,
Thanks for your reply. How long has your agency told you to expect to wait? (not sure if you are specifying boy or girl). Debbie |

We are waiting for a girl... and with our agency our wait begins when our application has been accepted... so we are waiting approximately 18 months. Those who started at the same time as us, and were waiting for a boy referral, now have their referrals and are waiting to travel to meet their children. So, about 6 months to referral and 9 months to travel. I hope that helps! Agencies are different in what constitutes the actual wait. Some from application, others from homestudy completion, some you wait before you submit your formal application and then things go quickly from there. It's that whole apples and oranges thing... keeping us PAP's (Prospective Adoptive Parents) on our toes!
