You might have seen this on other adoption boards but I'm posting it here as well.

America's Favorite Mom webpage

NBC is having a contest called America's Favorite Mom and their classifications for adoptive mom means that I’m not a Mom. I'm a "Non-mom Mom". Not happy about this one considering if you read the definition of mother you will find the following:

Please read definition 1C and 1D that pertains to the adoptive moms. 1A and 1B could refer to the First Moms, and 1D could refer to the Foster Moms as well.


On the America’s Favorite Mom website that I gave you above, look at Jennifer Keller and her bio. They separate out the biological child from the adopted children she is a mother to. I don’t know about what the adult adoptees think but why the segregation?? It doesn’t seem right to this mom.

Ugh, I normally try not to let others ignorance get to me, but this one touches a nerve. A "non-mom," what were they thinking?!?

My reply from Teleflora...

Thank you for contacting Teleflora to share your thoughts about the
"Teleflora presents America's Favorite Mom" program.

In response to your concerns, Teleflora is immediately changing the
name of our "Non-Mom" category to "Adopting Moms." After closer
examination, we can see how this may have been offensive to moms who
have adopted children -- moms who are indeed real moms to their
children in every sense of the word. In fact, many of us at
Teleflora are "adopting" parents ourselves, including our president
and owner. The essence of this category still focuses on a
grandparent, neighbor, step mom, or mom to adopted or foster
children, each one raising and loving a child.

This show of insensitivity on our part was in no way intended and we
deeply apologize for any concern or distress we may have caused. It
was always our intent to salute and celebrate all moms.

In closing, all of us at Teleflora would like to offer our sincerest
best wishes to all the many women throughout the world who have
worked so hard and given so much to earn the name "Mom."

Yeah I got the same response from them as well. I just don't like the separation between the different groups. It's just wrong since a Mom is a Mom is a Mom is a Mom...
