Age Requirements
Hi, My husband and I adopted from Guatemala 3 years ago and now we are thinking of a sibling for our daughter.
Do to the issues with Guatemala we are considering Korea. I read that the age limit is 45 years between adopted child and parent. My husband will be 46 this year and I will be 36. Does anyone know if would this be a problem? |

Hi,
Sorry - neither parent can be more than 45 years old at the time of the baby's arrival in your home. In a small number of cases, age waivers are granted by the Korean agencies, but usually these pertain to families that already have children adopted from Korea and are adding special needs kids or bio-siblings. Unfortunately, Korea is very strict with age requirement. Some agencies won't even let you start the paperwork if one of the parents is close to 43 year old, but you have to be 45 at the placement of your child. It is true that they are some exceptions if you want an age waiver, but I believe that you have to be open to special needs children.
