Anxiety/Depression Meds

Hello, Everyone!

I am still trying to figure out of my husband and I have a shot at adopting from Korea. My husband and I both take Lexapro for mild general anxiety issues. Mine are more related to post partum depression after the birth of my son last year. I hope to wean off my meds soon. It is vague on all the qualifications lists I've seen as to whether or not this will be a problem for Korea. Does anyone have any insight? I have a message in at the agency but have not heard back yet so I thought I'd try here in the meantime.

Thanks!

Lisa

I don't think that should be a problem. The best thing to do is to call an agency and ask them. I could be wrong though. I know China made some rule changes about antideprssents but I don't think Korea has.

Only thing is rules are always being changed. So what goes now might not be the same 1 year from now. Good Luck! Amanda

My husband and I are in process to adopt from Korea. I take an anti-depressant, and I had to get a very detailed letter from my doctor stating everything from my dosage to her opinion of my ability to parent an adopted child. The letter was sent to our agency and reviewed before we were given a definite go-ahead to proceed with the application process.

Try not to worry!

I had to get a detailed written letter from my doctor about a surgery I had on my hands to stop them from constantly sweating (it's called hyperhydrosis). So, those letters aren't just saved for people on antidepressants, it seems they want a letter for anyone who has had any previous medical issues. We did not experience any problems once we sent the letter. Good luck to you!!!
