Worries over a 2nd Referral
All -
My wife and I just received a referral from SWS. We adopted our first son from Korea almost 2 years ago. However, this time we both have some uneasiness about the process. We'd appreciate any thoughts on the following: 1) Has any noticed any concerns about their referrals? Specifically, regarding incomplete reporting of health issues? Does anyone know who we might contact to check up on this? 2) Since our first referral 24 months ago, exactly how has the process changed, and has any one had the experience of it seeming in general more 'opaque' than previously? We've been getting some feedback from our social worker about more complex agendas on the part of the Koreans for which children they send to which country (i.e., Canada, Europe as opposed to the US). Can anyone verify this? 3) Lastly, we acknowledge that a lot of our sense of this matter may simply be jitteriness that the process go as well the second time as it did the first. Is it common to be more squeamish the second time around? Thanks for any feed back. (Edited to add - PLEASE PM specific agency info as it is not allowed on the forums) John |

John,
We are in the process of our 3rd adoption. (edited for agency specific discussion. PLEASE PM) I'm interested to hear what others have to say on this. I found that I was much more "anxious" the second time than the first, mainly because there were issues with our first adoption agency, so we switched and I was very nervous of things going wrong. This time around I'm much more relaxed and confident.

Interesting that you're discussing SWS, a KOREAN AGENCY, and your posts aren't being deleted, yet mine got deleted earlier for also discussing Korean agencies. Fascinating how this board works.
(Moderator? You need to clarify this for me...) I'll PM you. Amy

Amy - Moderators are volunteers and do not spend 24-7 on the boards. We do try to catch everything, but sometimes we are not able to do so. If you see things that should not be posted, you can help us by clicking on the exclamation point of the post to report it. That generates an email to us informing us of the problem.
Fascinating, indeed! ![]()

For the referral of our second son, there was a lot of medical information, the agency in Korea, which will remain nameless, went above and beyond to answer all our questions and there was quite a bit of medical information. Our daughter's referral (with the same Korean agency our second son was with, which again I will not mention) had very little medical info, as her possible special needs were not as involved.
Hope this helps! And I apologize for using a Korean agency's name in my prior post, people have been using KOrean agency's names for a long time now and I didn't realize the rules had recently changed. I wasn't trying to break any rules.

I don't think the rules have changed, I just don't think all of the moderators understand how the Korean system works-- that is, we can only select our US agencies, not their cooperating Korean counterparts. Oh well! There's always PM!

Oh, okay. See in my mind saying one of the Korean agency's names is no different than saying "CCAA" on the China board.
I understand now. ![]()
