For those who've travelled...

Has anyone used an electronic language translator while travelling to Korea or any other non-english speaking country? A friend suggested I get one for Korea, but they're kind of expensive and don't know if it's really worth the $$...

Thanx, in advance for your responses.
Lee

Hi,
Don't buy it if you feel it is expensive. During our trip to pick our son up, there was no need for that kind of translator - so many Koreans speak English (in particular, young people but of course, all the relevant staff at the agency, e.g. your social worker) and you'll have so few opportunities to interact with anyone who doesn't speak English. I bought a travel guide and pointed to phrases/words in the dictionary (as in, we would like x please). I believe our travel guide cost 15 dollars and we only needed to use the dictionary like that 1 time in the 5 days we were there. The restaurants typically have photos of all the items and you can just point to something to order it.
