Family traditions

In establishing a feeling of connection within our family, I have been in the habit of instituting new family traditions that our son and his future sibling can grow up with. I thought it might be fun to share some of these ideas with others, and I'd love to see what the rest of you do/plan to do with your munchkins.

1. Christmas pajamas! Matching if possible, and as gawdy as possible, much to my husband's chagrin. You name it, trap doors, santa, footie jammies, whatever I can find!

2. Speaking of Christmas, cookies for santa, carrots for Rudolph and crew.

3. Whoa. I can't get off this holiday theme--over the river and through the woods to Grammy's house every Thanksgiving.

4. Daddy has established the yearly post-Thanksgiving pre-Santa trip to Boston! (doesn't even begin to compete with cool footie pajamas in my mind...)

5. Family dinners and fun activities. I was thinking of a family game night. Cool families always have family game nights. I could handle Candy Land, maybe even a game of Cribbage on occasion. OOH, and bowling. Nice.

OK--I'm getting carried away. Thoughts from the rest of you?
Seeking patience pills,
Amy

That's so funny! I just got back from buying matching pjs for my boys. They have snowmen and Santa all over them. I looked for matching footie ones, but to no avail. I think I'm now on a mission to find matching slippers for the matching jammies. I plan to have their pics taken with our Christmas tree and it might be a picture for this year's Christmas cards. Maddox is finally old enough to sit still for an entire story that's more than 1 sentence on a page, so I think this year we will start reading Twas the Night Before Christmas before bed on Christmas Eve. We have a huge family dinner on Christmas Eve at my inlaws and Christmas Day is strictly the 4 of us at home. Since we don't do Christmas dinner that day (leftovers) I am going to be making a big breakfast for us. Maybe Santa shaped pancakes?. I'm just thinking out loud here !

We do the matching pj's too! Although, it is just the boys (and soon Nina) who participate. My DH and I wear flannel pj's.

We all go out and pick out our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving.

Pictures with Santa at our local gym where I work sometimes. They take two pictures w/ polaroid and make it into ornaments and you also can take pictures with your own camera! Since I work there it is free and it sure beats standing in line at the mall.

Christmas music also starts playing here the day after Thanksgiving.

Candlelight service on church Christmas Eve.

Hot chocolate and chocolate chip pancakes for Christmas morning breakfast.

OH! A we bake A LOT of cookies and have a special plate and cup to leave out cookies for Santa and Reindeer.

Because I am NOT a morning person, we've always let our girls open up their Christmas stockings as soon as they wake up. It tides them over until I can wipe the sleep from my eyes and then they can open up the big gifts.

When they were little we used to leave Santa a note, and of course cookies on a special "Santa" plate and milk in a special "Santa" glass. I can't wait to use that tradition again.
