USCIS frustration
Hi all!
I have a question regarding the I-600A. DH and I went and got our fingerprints done on May 23, 2007. We have not heard or received ANYTHING as of yet regarding this. Our agency seems to think we should have received our pre approval by now and it is really worrying me. Is it normal for them to take this long? Even fo rthe pre approval? TIA! |

I cannot remember exactly anymore when we got the approval with my son two years ago, but we were HSTK in May, and weren't even called in to be fingerprinted until some time in August, so I wouldn't panic. Try to find out if your agency has a suggestion for who to call at your local to check up on the advance processing approval form.
Good luck! |

If you have a contact number, you should call them. It might depend on the State, but here in NC, it only took a week or a 1 week 1/2 to to hear that we were approved after we got fingerprinted. That was last year. I think that's too long to hear from them. Good luck!

I don't have a phone number to call. I called the local agency who did our homestudy weeks ago and they still haven't gotten back to me. They are only open like 4 days a wekk and 4 hours a day and yesterday I couldn't get them on the phone at all! ARG! On the bright side, I haven't gotten anything saying they needed more info either so maybe they are just backed up??

Where do you live? We live in Georgia, and ours took almost four months last year. However it is my understanding that they are moving much faster now.
Some states have extremely fast turn arounds. It's worth a phone call to make sure they haven't misplaced any of your paperwork. I hope you get approval soon! Carolyn

You can check the status of your case with USCIS at their website. I'll PM you with the details on where to go in their website.

Maybe just going to the office where your fingerprints were taken is worth the hassle if it sets your mind at ease. Maybe they can at least tell you face to face that you're in the system and you're being processed.
Sorry you have to go through this! Amy

It really depends where you live. In Virginia, it takes 3 months from submission of home study. So, even though our fingerprints were done July 12, our home study STILL isn't submitted so our clock hasn't even STARTED ticking. A lot of the CIS offices allow you to email the caseworker directly; can you do that?

Well, we still don't have any news on this situation. I finally got ahold of the homestudy agency and they have been unable to get ahold of their "guy" at our local USCIS. So we are still in limbo wondering if everything is alright there. ARG! I hope somone gets back to them soon!

Dealing with USCIS was the most frustrating part of both our adoptions. (especially the second) Everything in KOrea went very quickly but each step with USCIS took
months!!! It is so frustrating that the hardest part of Korean adoption is dealing with OUR OWN Government!!! |

You can email the office you sent your I-600A.
Was it the Albuquerque office? Processing and adjudication of Orphan Petitions and Advance Processing Applications continues to be one of the top priorities for USCIS. Each local office has an officer dedicated to the processing of orphan petitions. If you have already filed a Form I-600, Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative and/or a Form I-600A, Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition, and you have an emergent need to speak with the adoption officer at this office please send an email to ABQadoption@dhs.gov. The adoption officer will respond to your inquiry within 2 business days. This email address is intended for use only by customers who have a pending or approved Form I-600 or I-600A. To receive a response to an inquiry about a Form I-600 or I-600A, the sender must be the petitioner or his/her legal representative (such as an attorney). If you are the legal representative, you must already have a Form G-28 on file. When sending an email to this address you must provide the following information: •The petitioner’s name, •The petitioner’s date of birth, •The petitioner’s country of birth, •The receipt number of the Form I-600 or I-600A (if any), •The alien registration number (A-Number) associated with the case (if any), and •The name of the child to be adopted (if known) General information about orphan adoptions is available on the USCIS website, USCIS Home Page, under the "Services and Benefits" section or by calling USCIS Customer Service at 1-800-375-5283. |
