Smile Gender Question for Korea

I am new to this forum and I have a question.

My husband and I are working on our paperwork to adopt from Korea. We have in our minds that we are getting a boy based on the fact the agency said that mostly boys are available.

We have no preference, but I have noticed that a lot of people are getting a girl. How common is it to get a girl from Korea?

Thank you!

i am wondering about this too. Are you able to specify sex and wait for a girl if that is what you feel is best for your family/adoption?
Korea is one of the few countries we are looking into and we are thinking we'd like to adopt a little girl.

thanks.

The agency we are using asks us not to specify a gender since this would be our first child. They also said the wait would be longer for a girl, but I see a lot of girls out there...

I really think it depends on your agency. But from what I have seen as the norm seems to be that you cannot specify for your first child/adoption. After that or if you already have children in the home you may request a gender OPPOSITE of what you already have a majority of. Sometimes agencies say you can always request a boy regardless of whether or not it is your first adoption. They are a little more strict about requests for girls since their are more boys available. Again, this is pretty agency specific as to the EXACT requirements.

Holt USA no longer allows gender specification at all. I know that they did allow it in the past, but with the deceasing number of children available for int'l adoption, the wait just became impossible for people specifying girls (girls are requested by the vast majority when gender is preselected).

It is entirely up to your agency. Our agency no longer allows a gender preference to be stated for Korea, regardless of how many other kids you have adopted. There are more boys to be adopted, and many people through our agency waited years to get a girl rather than taking a boy referral, before our agency adopted this policy. I speak from experience, LITTLE BOYS ARE ANGELS TOO!

I firmly believe you will adopt the child you are meant to parent. Boy or girl, their spirit will find you!

Our agency did not allow us to specify the gender of our child. My personal option is to keep open your options for a boy or girl. Even though mostly boys are available, a little girl may be available when you are the "next one in line" for a referral. You potentially could be extending your waiting time by specifying a boy. My husband and I were blessed to get a referral of a little girl. Good luck to you with your adoption!

My wife and i have 2 sons. We are now looking to find our daughter. Could someone please PM me the name of an agency that is reputable and allows the specification of a girl because of our boys. Thanks, Quinn.

Our agency states that there is a 70% chance of getting a boy from Korea, but then our government doesn't allow choosing the sex.

China is stated as the opposite -75% chance for a girl.

They say it has something to do with wanting to keep the girls due to tradition. (Can't remember the exact reasons)
