Agency called--our daughter has a brother!!!
Wow, my head is SPINNING right now. Our agency called this evening. Our faciliatator asked if I was sitting down, and my heart started pounding. She was calling to let us know that our daughter has a brother, and wants to know if we want to pursue his adoption.
We brought our daughter home this past September. She was born in March, and he was born this past December (yes you read that right--they are nine months apart). OMG OMG OMG. I read of this occasionally on the forum, but didn't think it would ever happen to us. We have a 5 1/2 year old (biological), a two year old (from Guatemala) and a one year old (from Korea). I can't even imagine how crazy it would be to add one more. And I can't even BEGIN to imagine how we'd raise the money. We're still paying off our first two adoptions (my husband is a teacher and I work part-time as a school counselor--Brad and Angelina we are not). But I can't imagine how we will live knowing that our daughter has a brother out there. Has anyone out there had this happen? What did you do? Please pm me if you feel more comfortable with that. Did I mention that my head is SPINNING??? Gotta go. Lots of thinking and praying to do! Carolyn

We adopted our Guatemalan daughter's brother last year. We too got a call out of the blue before he was even born. We didn't know if we would adopt again at all but just did it and are so happy. But he was only our second...and they are 21 months apart. Boy your hands would be full.
Our agency offered to try and place the baby in our state if we decided not to adopt him. Maybe if you decide you just can't do it you could request that they offer his referral to someone who lives near you if that is at all possible. Good Luck with your decision!

Carolyn,
Our two are bio sibs and are 15 months apart. DH and I feel for you and your decision. For us, we decided to adopt our son's sister. Bare minimum, we were asked by our agency to keep in touch with the other adoptive family for the kids' sake. Before we made our decision on her, we told our agency that we definitely agreed to that. It's been rough at times and fun at times. Ryan tells us nearly every day that he loves Katie. If you need a listening ear, I'm here just PM me. Congrats on that call and good luck with your hard decision!! Jen

I PM'd you. Good Luck. We decided to adopt our son's sibling. We couldn't imagine knowing he was out there and not here in our crazy family.

Whoa. I can't imagine what you must be feeling. I know our agency does offer financial aid for families in this situation--perhaps yours does as well? I have no expertise in this area, and I believe everything happens for a reason. If you are able to adopt your daughter's sibling, it is happening for a reason, and if you are not, it is also happening for a reason. Having said this, (and as I said, with no expertise and currently only 1 child, my gut tells me that if I were in your situation I THINK...) I would ADOPT HIM!
I do know of a local family that has adopted the sibling of a child adopted by another family, and the families have become quite close. Oh--I hope the very best for you. What a tough decision! Please keep us posted. Amy
