My husband and I are considering adopting from Korea and wanted some information if possible. I have heard of the possibility of adoptions slowing due to wanting to increase domestic adoptions within Korea. What does this mean in terms of those of us wanting to adopt? Will things just slow considerably or will they halt all together? Also, can you inform me of which agencies you have had good/bad experiences with? Sorry to drag on but we just have so many questions! Thanks for the help!

Welcome. I have not seen any signs that Korea will halt allowing intercountry adoption (though sometimes things change on a dime). There are still a lot of children without homes and until more Koreans are willing to adopt domestically, the international programs will still be needed.
As stated earlier, the new rules mean that children will be older upon referral and arrival.

I can only speak from personal experience...that things have definitely stalled out since the beginning of December. We were moving fairly rapidly up our agency's waitlist...but haven't moved in almost two months. Don't know if this is a result of the rule changes, or just a typical bump in the road...but...
Good luck to you, Julia

Like any adoption process, there are always the unknowns that come into play. The process has been affected by the number of passports that are granted. That certainly held true with our process. We ended up waiting months longer for our travel call because of those limitations.
Overall, I would still recommend it. With the exception of the wait time, it is a fairly predictable process as compared to other countries, and the babies receive comparable medical care. The specific agency that you can go through will depend on where you live (different agencies serve different states). Good luck! Melissa
