Remember that, with Korea, you MUST use an agency that has a license from the Korean government to place children with families IN YOUR STATE, except in the case of adoption of children with special needs.
As a result, even if someone tells you about a great agency, it may not help you if the agency cannot place children with families in your state. The best way for you to find the names of agencies that can place children with families in your state is to go to adoptkorea.com. This non-commercial website was developed by an adoptive Mom, who updates it regularly, and is not connected with any particular agency. Besides listing the U.S. agencies licensed to place Korean children in each state, the website lists the Korean welfare organizations with which each is affiliated. This can be helpful, since each of the four Korean welfare organizations has different requirements. In most cases, you will find that you can choose from only a couple of agencies. Once you know which agencies you can use, you can then ask specifically about those agencies. I would also suggest that you come up with specific questions. Remember that, just because an agency is perfect for one family, it may not be perfect for you. Think about your biggest concerns -- travel, communication between agency and family, unexpected extra fees, help with paperwork, etc. Those are the sorts of things that you'll want a person to address. Adopt Korea is a good place to start but I don't think it is very current on some of the information. I know we started using an agency in IL (where we live) and just after we submitted our application, they stopped placing children through a cooperative program with an agency in MI. This is what we were going to do - and adoptkorea.com still shows them as partners.
