Information Needed
Hello All,
DH and I are starting the "research stage" of adopting from Korea. Our ds is adopted from Guatemala. We are looking to adopt another boy. Can anyone give me some information about the process of adopting from Korea? We live in Pennsylvania. Can you tell me a general timeframe, costs, etc? Thank you Stacy |

Hi, you can view my timelines in my sig line below. We waited for a girl so it took a bit longer than a boy would have with our agency. Our agecy said about a month for a boy. We hope to have legals by mid June and have her home by Mid August. HOPING being the big word there.
Cost wise...varies with agency. I know the agency fees usually run between 2-4000, we were close to 4500 and the SWS orphanage fee for us was about 16000 WITH ESCORT. Each orphanage and each agency has different fees. You need to ask the agency you want to use. Home study ranges in price as well. Our homestudy was around 2000. Good luck, Mandy

Korea
Stacy,
The timelines & prices will vary by agency. There are only a few Korea licensed agencies per state. I can PM you the agency we used since they also work in PA. Our son is 13 months old and arrived home last month. For us it took 9 months from application to travel. I hear things have slowed down a bit though. We have been very pleased with the Korean program and our agency. They were very staight forward and answered all our questions. I will send you a PM with the name & contact info. If you have any questions please feel free to email or PM. Here is a link to some photostoo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkwgSH2OBc0 Goodluck, Heather

Depending on which Korean agency you are with 9 mos start to finish is still possible (we're hoping - all we're waiting for is the phone to ring to travel!)
Our total fees will be around $25,000. From what I understand there are some great agencies working in PA. Good luck!

have you checked out adoptkorea.com? They have tons of information & a state by state listing of agencies available to you. A good agency will tell you their time frames & give you a break down of costs. a good range would be 9 - 20 mos, & $20 - 25,000.

In addition to what the above posts say, I want to add that some agencies no longer allow gender selection (this change was made because the entire wait for referrals of girls was creeping up too close to almost 2 years).

Hi Stacy,
Our agency told us the wait for the referral of a boy would be no longer than one month, so your wait shouldn't be long at all. Plus with Korea, you only have to do a homestudy--no dossier!!! Our younger son is from Guatemala. From what I've learned so far, there are a lot of similarities in the two programs (foster care, excellent medical care, healthy and beautiful babies). Good luck in your research! Carolyn

I live in PA, could someone refer the agency they worked with in PA. I'd love some feedback on these agencies. It's hard when you really know nothing about them.
