A First Grader's Take on International Adoption
I teach First Grade in a school in San Antonio TX...I've talked openly about what adoption is and have had the support of parents. So when a child asks questions, I try to be as honest as possible. I truly thought we were through with the questions from this particular class, but today I was asked about my first son after a little girl was admiring his picture on my desk.
"Mrs. B., was J.R. born from your tummy?" asked a sweeet little girl. Another girl piped up, "NO, KAYLEE...He was born from another WORLD!!!"  Cathy

Kids truly say the darndest things! My current second grade class is very well informed, but they just experienced everything with me. I know in the future I'll get to hear some interesting/entertaining comments
 .

I love these stories! I thought we did a really great job explaining the adoption process to our older (bio.) son. Wellllllllll, he comes home from preschool one day and is talking about the teacher there who is pregnant and about to have a baby. He said, "Mom-I guess any day now she'll be getting on the plane to Guatemala."
So perhaps I have a bit more explaining to do. Carolyn
