How is the Korea process going?

We are about to start in with China, but China is having such a huge slowdown! I just found out today that you do not have to do a dossier in Korea.

Why did you chose Korea?

Thank you

Gina

We chose Korea for a couple of different reasons. One being that the quality of the health care system is almost as equal as the US and generally the children who come home from there are in good health. Another plus for us, since we have two young boys was that the baby could be escorted into the US without us having to travel. Not that it wouldn't be a grand adventure, it just wasn't right for us at this time.

Young babies, foster care (rather than orphanage), great medicals, cost, escort.

In addition to the reasons given above (in particular, young age, great medical and foster care), we also were very excited that we would probably be referred a boy.

Before switching you might take into account that there are currently fewer children in Korea placed for adoption and the waits have increased quite a bit. One prominent agency is not even accepting any new applications. In addition to calling your local adoption agency and finding out their estimates you might want to read some of the posts in recent months and you will get an idea how people have answered PAPs who are considering switching from China to Korea.

Good luck!

We chose Korea because of it's foster care system, equal healthcare, and its speed. From application to travel it has taken us just over 8 months. I understand things have slowed down a bit but I beleive they are still faster than China. You should inquire with the Korea licensed agency in your state and get more info on the current time schedule.

Part of the reason we chose Korea is no dossier and no travel. We also liked that the babies are places in foster care usually and the health care is good.

When we started the program we were told to expect a referral within a few weeks of completing our HS and a travel call within 4 months. Well we got a referral of a baby girl (surprise!) in 3 weeks but now travel calls are taking 6-9 months. Also we were told not to expect a baby less than 12 month old.

A lot of this is dependent on your agency. If we did not live in Ohio we might not have chosen Korea- because our agency uses KSS in Korea- we had no weight restriction and the referrals come very quickly. With some other agencies you wait long for a referral but travel comes more quickly- it all depends what state you live in- as to which agency you can use.

Thanks! That sheds more light. The perks to me are no dossier and foster care. We don't mind waiting so much. Thanks for all your insight.
