Just a quickie and it might be kinda stupid but i was reading a post from a while back and someone said that their korean adoption was an open adoption? Are korean adoptions open adoptions. Do you get to pick? How does this work?I was just wondering and dont mean to insult or offend anybody.
Thanks so much, khdre♥

Many more Korean adoptions are becoming more open. I am being told that many babies are arriving home with letters from their birth mothers. It is a testimate to new feelings about adoption in Korea that allow these channels to be opened. When I was adopted, this was unheard of...now it is much easier for children to locate their birth parents because of better records and a more open process. I'm not sure that there are a lot of adoptions that are as "open" as some of the domestic adoptions, but it is definitely becoming "more" open.
Though I've never had an interest in locating my birth parents, I am aware that many adoptees do want to make the search. This process eliminates a lot of the stress for them. I was actually pretty disappointed when my son arrived without a letter; however, we know enough about his birth parents that we will search for them if he wants us to in the future. I hope this helps. Mo

I plan to write letters and put pictures on file for the birthmom of our son. She is very young, and having an unplanned, out of marriage pregnancy still carries a great stigma in Korea. Because of this, we do not know her identity, but are hopeful that perhaps one day if our son chooses to meet her, he will be granted this oportunity.

The way it works w/ our agency is on one of the forms you can opt to be presented with an Open Adoption. Both times we said yes, but neither birthmother opted for that. So even if you say you are ok with that arrangement, it doesn't mean that you WILL have an open adoption, just that it might be a possibility.
