Children in Korea are placed in foster homes, (one foster child per family) as soon as they are able to leave the hospital. We got our referral4 mos after our application was turned in, and about 1 week after our final home visit. (Yes, thatwas very unusual!) Our whole process was about 9 mos. CJ was 4 mos at referral & 8.5 mos at homecomming.

Hi Newbie, and welcome!
I've seen the age of babies who come home range from 4 mos. to around a year, although I'd estimate the average is probably around 6 mos. of age. All the babies are in foster care. (Thankfully!) Our baby son is almost 7 mos. old, and we are hoping to see him come home in the next 2 months. Best of luck!

Like everyone has stated, Korean babies are in foster care. Time frames and ages will vary by agency. We have been very pleased with our thus far.
We applied with our agency in Aug 2005 and by Nov 2005 we had a referral for a healthy boy. He is now 11 months old and should be home by late April. So from application to travel it took us about 9 months.

Hi there,
Both of our boys were in foster care from day one. Our first son was referred at 2 months old and came home a day before his 5 month birthday. Our second son was referred at 1.5 months old and came home at 5.5 months old. Our first son's process took exactly one year from start to finish. Our second son's process took a little over 13 months. Different agencies have different waiting times though. Cathy |

Most babies are in foster care very early. They had a limited amount of foster mothers when my son was born and he was in the care center for the first 5 months and then in a foster home for the last month as soon as there was an opening. We could tell from the pictures that he was getting wonderful care at the care center as well though. They cuddled and played with him a lot.
