Ups and Downs.. it's a down!
Hello all! I am brand new to this board, just started lurking yesterday and wanted to post. We have been working toward bringing our baby home since about August 2005. We went slowly, because we were saving the money. When we started, our agency was placing, from initial application to arrival home, in about 6-8 months. We were thrilled. Well, now that we are finished with our Homestudy, and ready to go full speed ahead, they have pretty much stopped handing out referrals. I have been told that in all likliness, it won't be in 2006. I am so bumbed.
I don't see much on this board about the progress of things in Korea. Anyone care to talk about this?

Gosh, that's some tough break, all right. We were hoping to have our little one home last month and it's killing us to wait another few weeks. Which agency in Korea does your agency in the US work with? What I've been hearing/reading is that it's very agency-dependent, how long one has to wait. It might be worth your while looking into swicthing agencies.

Delays
I noticed that there were a couple of posts (see posts from 2/28 & 3/3), that addressed possible reasons for delays. I have not heard anything to confirm the slow down rumor from our agency, so it very well could be dependent on what agency you are working with. If delays are truly a result of the Korean government, I would hope that we'd be hearing more via the state dept., the press, etc.

And back!! My agency works with Korean Social Services, but we are being told that passports are being limited. I believe that our agency is one of the biggest for number of placements (not the biggest, but one of the bigger ones). I know that our rep from the agency is traveling over there later this month to discuss more, so they won't tell us "for sure" that this is the case. My hubby keeps reminding me that nothing is impossible with God and that His timing is perfect... he's better at dealing with it then I am obviously!! And the wait goes on!!

All I have heard is roumors to the possibility that one or two of the Korean agencies are experiencing a slow down, while the others are not. I do know that South Korea is trying to improve it's domestic adoptions, so they are placing fewer children internationally, every year. I think the number was under 2,000, and because they only give out so many visas every year, slow downs for that reason usually occure in the fall. Their government is very sensitive about pressure from other countries on this issue, and have not responded favorably in the past to pressure from private or US governmental agencies, to release more children for international adoption.
It's such a wonderful adoption program, that it's hard when slowdowns or delays happen. I hope that things start moving quickly again & you get your referral soon! Michelle, your husband is right. God's timing is perfect. If we had not gone through all the infertility junk, & then started the adoption process, we would never have gotten our little girl. She IS my baby! Millie
