Can you request boy/girl for Korean adoption?

I thought that you could, but then I read somewhere else that you can't anymore. I'm in CA, if that makes a difference. We'd really like to have a girl since we've already got 2 boys.

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks!

I guess it would depend on your agency...The agency that I PMd you about does not allow gender selection anymore as of about June of 2005. They expect things to even out as the list for girls begins to go down.

Yes, I just figured out that they don't allow boy/girl requests anymore, and it seems like they are the best known agency, so I don't know what we'll do.

It's not that I wouldn't love another boy (they are terrific), I'd love to have about 10 children, but I just really wanted to have the experience of raising a girl.

One thing to consider is the waiting child program. Many of the issues in the WCP are VERY minor, and even clear up on their own before the child travels. Korea has state of the art medical attention, too. Many more children come into the WCP that are not listed on the website's photolistings. That way you could request a girl. I would give that particular agency a call and ask to speak to someone who handles the Waiting child process in Korea.

Good luck,
Cathy

I don't think that you can- I know that you cannot if you do not have any children. Good luck!

Mine will let us choose...

I am in the research phase of adopting from Korea. I also have two boys. The agency I have decided to use (IF we do this-aahh decisions decisions!) WILL let us choose since we only have boys in our home.

PM me if you want the name of this agency.

Carolyn

My daughther came home on 2/21/06. You can request a girl if you already have a boy with our agency (Barker & SWS). I already have two boys also. She was not a waiting child and was 5 months when she arrived home.

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely check out the waiting child.

Julie, congrats on Emma and thanks for the recommendation.

Just thought I'd add that our agency doesn't allow a gender preference right now. I've also noticed that in our Waiting Child section, very few girls have become available as of late, and those that do seem to be matched more quickly than the boys. I also wanted to mention something I'm sure you've considered...you can always request a daughter from China.

I can understand the desire to have a daughter. Best of luck on your search to find your little girl!
Amy
P.S. Feel free to PM me if you want our agency's name.

I also wanted to add that through our agency, escorts are available for Ethiopia and India as well, if traveling is an issue.

Your daughter is out there somewhere!

The agency we plan on using will allow you to request the sex only if you already have a child of the opposite sex.
