Medical requirements for Korea?

My husband and I are considering Korea for our next adoption. We have heard that Korea has tough medical requirements. Could you please elaborate on this. Neither my husband or I are overweight, dont have any communicable diseases or anything. What else are the requirements? Are there long daunting forms that have to be filled out by our DR? I love our Dr's office but sometimes to get paperwork out of them is like pulling teeth. Any imput on this will be very helpful
Thanks
Carla

We had physicals early on — and got the doctor to fill in the forms for that (just two pages of check boxes) while we were there, so it wasn't bad at all. Weight is an issue but you have to be quite plump to fail. A quick Google...

In a Nut Shell: The Low-Down on Adopting From South Korea

Children Available: Healthy infants, both boys and girls, six months of age and older. Special needs and older children are also available for adoption.
Parent Requirements: Couples aged 25 to 44 years old who have been married at least three years may adopt. There must be no more than one divorce in each parent’s past. Single parents may not adopt from South Korea.
Travel Requirements: Travel to South Korea is not required. However, it is always strongly recommended that adoptive parents travel to the country of their child’s birth. Parents who do choose to travel to South Korea need stay only two or three days to complete the adoption.
Time Frame: From the time of your initial application through child placement averages twelve months.
Number of Children Adopted by Americans in 2002: 1,779
Additional Information: No dossier is required to adopt children from South Korea. To adopt from Korea, you should not have more than four children currently living at home. The children available for adoption from South Korea are in foster care. Children who have a low birth weight or who are born prematurely are classified as having minor special needs. Six months of post-placement reports and supervision are required.

Another issues is history of mental illness. Your md has to sign that you and your husband have not had any mental illnesses and have to been on any psychatric meds - even for depression or anxiety.

Julie-

We've talked to some agencies and have researched some of the medical requirements, but I hadn't heard about the anxiety/depression meds. Is this for all agencies or for the S.Korean gov't? I was on depression meds as a teen, and my fertility dr. had me on Buspar for anxiety for 3 months in '03. We wouldn't be able to adopt from Korea?

Thanks!

yes, you should be fine. Your MD will just have to write a letter saying something like short term use, situational, no reason to consider you unstable, if it even comes up. I think there is something on the form about history that would prevent you from being a good parent. It doesn't sound like it will be a big deal for you. Does your reg MD even know that your infetilit doc had you on Buspar? Mine has no idea of what the infertility doc did. I wonder if he even knows avout the IVF? hhmmm...

Good luck!
