timeline question

We got our packet from the agency to fill out. When we have completed that, they will do the homestudy.

After the homestudy and CIS is complete, how quickly can a referral come? And how quickly after that will the baby come home? I know it is probably different for each- but could we possibly have a baby by next spring or summer?
(We are KSS.)

A lot of the referral times are agency dependant. We actually had our referral before the final revision of the homestudy was done. Therefor it was a longer wait for arrival, because all of the documents had to be sent to Korea first. Most arrivals happen about 16 - 24 weeks after referral (or documents to Korea, in our case) Cady arrived 17 weeks from the documents going to Korea. Our first meeting with our agency was Oct 12th last year (CJ's birthday) so our packet went in about 2 weeks later, CJ came home on June 30th (DH's birthday). As long as your agency has a quick referral time, I don't wee why you wouldn't have your baby by next summer!

Hope it goes fast!

Referrals also depend on gender

Hi,

The speed of referrals depends on your agency but also on your criteria for selection, mainly health status and gender. The wait at my agency for a girl was 18 months from the time your application reaches Korea until your baby comes home. As a result of these long waits, they no longer allow gender preselection.

You're using KSS - just throw all other timelines out the window! If you're in OH or MI, your referral (whether a boy or a girl) will come usually within DAYS of your homestudy report being sent in. For our son, we had our last homestudy visit on 12/17/03. The report was mailed on 12/23/03. We received our referral on 12/31/03.

For our daughter, we had our homestudy visit on 12/28/04. The report was mailed on 1/8/05. We received our referral on 1/13/05.

If you are in one of the partner states (I know I should know where you are, but I forgot), it may take slightly longer.

Basically, count on within 1 month and know that it will probably be MUCH sooner.

thanks (I'm in OH)

Wow! that's fast! OK now I'm getting nervous! (but in a good way!)

My plan is to try to finish all the paperwork and homestudy stuff by the end of the year. I work full time, so I can't work on it every day. I was hoping for baby by next summer but your timeline was much faster than that!

If the end of the year is your goal, I would say you're looking at a spring homecoming!

Both our boys took 6 months from initial application to arrival day. With our older son our homestudy was finished in the end of April and we had a referral May5th. Our younger son was backwards....we got his referral first (he is a sibling to our older son) then scrambled to get all our paperwork done. We stll managed to pull it off in 6 months!

timeline

Your agency is your best bet for timeline. I did a lost of research before picking my agency. The biggest part of the decision was timeline. I had agency's say 15 to 18 mos. I went with one that works with SWS in Korea and my process was extremely fast.

I see you switched agecies, why was that?

Because we switched to an agency that had a Korea program (from one that did not).
