Question New here with some questions

After thinking about international adoption forever, we have finally decided to do it. After doing some preliminary research, Korea is our first choice. But, there are very few agencies offering Korean adoptions that work with our state (Montana). All of the agencies we've found are only placing special needs children in Montana. I'm open to this, but it's making my husband a little nervous. Has anyone else encountered difficulty finding agencies working in their state? Also, they say the special needs are often minor and correctable... can anyone enlighten me a little more on what we could possibly expect, and how much say we may have in what type of special needs we would accept. Thanks!

Roxanna

I am sorry I don't know much about finding an agency working in your State.

However, I believe you have alot to say about the type and severity of the disability you and your family can handle. I know several families who adopted so called special needs children who had relatively minor and repairable conditions and our now flourishing

I would speak with the agencies again about the type of conditions the available children have and then discuss them with a physician.

Good luck!

hi isnt there a site Koreadopt.com or org, and they list by state . Also we are adopting form Guatemala and our lil guy is considered special needs. It consists of him being premature and so he is a lil delayed, but is making major leaps and bounds praise the Lord! He also has a minor kidney issue whaich is very treatable and lives a very normal life. Older children , sibling groups, premature babies, cleft lip and/or palate, club foot, four fingers instead of 5, arm shorter than other, etc. these are some exambles of what I have seen as minor. Even though I am not adopting from Korea (one day I would like to) feel free to pm me or email! Have fun, check out a couple of reputable agencies that do have photos of lil ones and you can read about what they are facing and get some ideas. Bardsanddog

The site for state by state agencies is adoptkorea.com

They should list the agencies that are willing to work with families in your state even if he children are considered special needs with monir/ correctible situations. There are many that are good agencies to work with, although I think that most agencies working in Korea have been there for quite a while and would be reputable. If you need any info on certain agencies please feel free to pm me or email.

Good Luck

Hello,

We are adopting from Holtintl.org We are also adopting a "waiting child" and his special needs was that he was born at 31 weeks and his lungs were underdeveloped that was it. His reports show that he is perfectly normal! Also on the website there is a bb that you can check out and they are great!

I did a quick search.
It looks like there is an agency called "A New Arrival" that does Korean adoptions in Montana. I don't know anything about them.

However, you really don't get a lot of choices with Korea. Lots of states only have 1 agency actually in the state, and maybe a 2nd or 3rd agency that can place waiting children. That is true where I live, as well.

Best wishes on your adoption.

Jennifer

We adopted our second son through CHSM which can place special needs in any state. His special need?...Vitiligo...which is an absence of pigment in the skin. In his case it is a small quarter sized spot on his tummy and thighs. It could spread but then it could not. He is two and the spots have stayed the same. CHSM uses the RainbowKids site to post pictures. You can also register at their site and have access to their photos.\Good luck
