What to wear/What to eat
Our daughter was born August 5 at 7 pounds. She is coming May 1. As of Feb. 2 she weighed 15 pounds. Any idea what size she will be wearing? Guesses about weight? Anyone have a child come home recently. As of Feb 2 no solid foods? Any idea how/wht foods to introduce?

Hi!
My daughter also weighed 7 pounds at birth and at her 6 month check two weeks ago up she was 17 pounds. She has just outgrown most size 3-6 months and now is wearing 6-9 months. At 15 pounds, your daughter would probably be able to wear either size but would soon need the 6-9. As far as foods, rice cereal is usually introduced first (at least here). You can buy brown rice cereal (instead of the processed white rice cereal) which is supposed to be better for the babies. There's a really good book about feeding and introducing foods called Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron. Best wishes & have a great trip!

Our son came home at 7 mo (now is 8.5 mo) and wears 12-18 mo clothes. At 7 mo he was 28" and 22 lbs - huge.
When checking sizes, also note length and that one brand's 6-9 mo may be the same physical size as another brands 3-6 mo. I'd buy bigger, aiming for some 9 mo and more 12 mo outfits. Find out the store's return policy and keep receipts in case you need to return anything. Hopefully the child reports will say if she is on any foods other than formula. If not, she'll definitely be old enough to move quickly up the texture scale for foods, but remember to leave about 4 days before introducing each new food (to catch any allergies). Rice cereal to start (only need 1 box), then probably various fruits and veggies and oatmeal. The first foods I started with were rice cereal, bananas, whole milk yogurt, sweet potoatoes, green beans, peas and applesauce. Nestle Good Start is a good bet for an easy formula transition. Nipple shapes are similar to those found on Gerber, Angel or Playtex Ventaire bottles (at least for the bottles our agency gave the foster families to use). Also, to kill time, test stain removers Make sure they are good enough to remove sweet pototo/carrot stains from whites. (maybe test on a white rag) |
