Unhappy Adoptee seeking information

After long consideration, I have decided to see if I can locate my biological parents. Problem is, I don't know where to start and a lot of the agency are charging for the process. I currently can't afford this as I have just finished my military term and no longer have a job and am having trouble finding one that I'm qualified for. The information that my adopted family knows of if very little. I was adopted out of Taegu Korea when I was a few months old. There is no other information about my biological parents because I was a "door-step baby", found by some workers one morning. The belief is that my mother may have been a "working girl" and my father may have been in the armed forces and may not even know that I exist. I have put off the decision to find them for so long but now my curiosity has gotten the better of me and also for medical reasons, I would like to find out as much as I can. If anyone knows how to start this process or where I can seek help from someone, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi,

This may be a hard one. I am in the process of adopting, so this reply is basically just a brainstorm session...

You could ask the agency that placed you to see all your paperwork and then, if you were in a non-agency orphanage, contact them and ask the same.

You could place ads in Korean papers and/or hire an investigator (maybe someone in Korea with a police background) to look into your info. Emphasize the search in the province in which you were found. I'm guessing your exact birthdate may not be known(?), so maybe give a range of possible birthdates.

Best of luck.

I'm in the same situation. I'm here at work so I don't have the exact city but I'll post it when I do get home..but I came to the US when I was 5 months old myself..and know some korean but not too much. Anyways, I have more information that you but it doesn't mean you won't find them. I'm actually in the process of hoping to go overseas just to see the country itself who knows what it will bring. But I'll try to help you and vice versa. Who knows what we will be able to do or find?

Have you tried to contact either Holt or Eastern in Korea. I don't know Holt's web address but Eastern's is www.eastern.or.kr. I know they help adoptee's who are searching for their birthparents.

Hope this helps.

Now that you have said something about it...Holt is the name of the adoption agency that I have on some of my paperwork. I wonder if I can find them online and get in contact with them. Thanks so much for your help.

My daughter was also born outside of Teagu and we have no info on birthfather. So simialr situation is being considered about a military gentleman being her birthfather. If you know which American agency you were adopted through they can guide you to the correct Korean agency. I know many here in the states use Social Welfare Society (SWS) they also have a website. I would suggest finding out which Korean agency was used and contacting them. They may have more information regarding your situation.

Good luck to you in your search. I hope you find everything that you are looking for.

I wish you great luck on your searches! I know that SWS has a pretty good web site. You can try looking for info on the i-a-a.org site. This is a site dedicated to aisian adoptions. I know AIAA has a link there. And Terri Bell at Aiaa is a wonderful person. If you need any further info please pm me!!!

Everyone has been wonderful help. I really don't know what I would do if I didn't think that so many others would be in the same boat that I am. Thanks so much and for everyone that is still looking, good luck and let me know if I can help anyone out. Who knows, maybe one of y'all is my brother or sister...lol.
