Iran adoption

This is the first adoption site that I have come across with some information on adopting from Iran. My husband and myself are planning to adopt from Iran and have made some contact with an orphanage there but we know it is going to be a particularly difficult process and have been attempting to make headway for more than a year now. My husband and myself are both South African but we have an advantage that he was born in Iran (Iranian mother) and still has some family back there who we visited two years ago. Wonderful nation, friendly and caring to all nationalities. One of the obstacles we will have to overcome is that we are not moslem and therefore I do not know how many christian children are available for adoption. There are a number of orphanages though. I am also hoping that the fact that my husband can speak farsi will help us and I am learning to speak it too.

I would love to see a seperate forum set up for this country as I can see, since the Bam earthquake there is some international interest for adoption from Iran.

I will keep you posted if any breakthroughs are made. We have another obstacle to overcome first though, that is we are not living in South Africa so will have difficulty with the homestudy process too.

If anyone has any information regarding adoption from Iran I would greatly appreciate it.

Sonia

There is a post farther down the screen about Iranian adoption. Did you see that one?

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much information about the country. The state department says that the country is risky because after a disaster, they can't verify if the children are truly orphans or just separated from their families.

Best wishes to you.

Iran Adoption

I am wondering about the orphanages in Iran. My husband (who is Iranian) and I found only one and it only has boys up to age 5. We are wanting to find an older boy, possibly 9 years old. Can you give me some ideas on how you found the orphanages and the ages they served. Thank you
