Searching for medical records

My mother was adopted in 1951. She was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky. I know what her birth name was and would like to try to find out some family background information (mainly family medical history) due to some illnesses of my mother and the fact that I have 2 children of my own. How do I get this information?? If there is any one that would be able to help, I would appreciate it!!

I work in a Ky hospital and I know that Ky law states that you must keep a child's records until age of majority plus two years (in KY, that would be legal age of 21 plus 2 = 23 years old). That means that if a child was at the hospital and has stopped going there, they can destroy their records after the child would have turned 24. The hospital I work at hasn't destroyed any records though, so it might be worth your while to call the hospital's Medical Records Dept. and ask if they can fax or mail a medical records release to you. Your mom would have to sign it and send in a cop of a photo id. Also, DO NOT mention the word adoption. They will stop the search right then and may require you to obtain a court order or subpoena to get the records. I would just list her name with birth last name or as "Baby Girl Doe" for example. That may get you started. She won't be able to get her birth mother's records. A person can get their own records. To get someone else's records, you have to have Power of Attorney or Executorship papers. If anyone has any questions or would like more information, they can feel free to email me. Leave me your phone number and I will call you back. Good luck in your search.

What is your mother name and I will be glad to try to search some of the sites that I did when I found my bparents, Plus you can try the old phone thing. Find someone by the same last name in act like you are trying to find a long lost classmate. The older the better they like to talk more
