We told our agent what sex we wanted but the wait for a girl is about 2 years and a boy much shorter.
As far as traveling we are making two trips i have a 4 year old we are not bring with us and we dont want to be away from him for 7 or 8 weeks. I have heard that if you stay the whole time it is shorter by like a week.

2. Depends on the agency, most allow you to choose gender.
3. Avg one trip is 6-8wks or two trips of 3wks and 7-10 days.

yes it's open but like any country can shut down or slow down at any time.

With our agency we were able to chose the sex and age range.

It really depends on the region. Some have court close to the end of the bonding period, some have it a month after bonding, making for a longer process. We could not request a region so you end up with what you get, not sure how that works with other regions.

So the process can be anywhere from 7 to 8 weeks total to three months depending on where you go. Of course you can always break it up in to two to three trips.

I have heard it is slow now because there is some new person reviewing dossiers.

I did things a bit differently because I saw a photo of a special eneds child and specifically went for him, but I worded the homestudy as generally as possible so in case I decided against adopting him, I could see a wide range of other kids. I think my parameters were a boy 5-12 years old.

The more general you are, the better chance you have, I believe. I would never put "an infant as young as possible" for instance. I would put down child of either gender, 1 month - 4 years old, for instance. I say that because I have seen so many families who went for an infant and ended up with a 2 or 3 year old and were very happy with their choice. There's also the possibility of siblings, and it's easier to say 1 - 3 kids and just get the siblings on the one trip, than to have to return. I have friends who did that.

I did two weeks of bonding, then had to wait a week for the court date, then I came home after court. I waited a month, then returned and was home in about 9 days.
I wish I could have stayed the whole time but I didn't want to use up FMLA time only seeing him an hour a day at the orphanage.

My agent tell me, that the papers goes so slowly because Kazakhstan´s preparing a new law.

Yes, Kazakhstan is revising their "Law on Marriage and Family" which is what covers adoption. Some of the proposed changes are: no single parents, no parents over 50, no gays, no one living together and not married. Just because these restrictions are being proposed does not mean that they will pass.

It is open but some agencys stopped taking new applications because they have so many waiting already. At least that is what I was told.
