Just Starting!! Agency??

Hello All,

My husband and I recently decided that adopting would be a good thing for us. Too many years of ivf related heartbreak. I met a woman who adopted from Kstan and it sound like a great place to seriously look into. We found a big, local agency, which overall seems very well run, but their Kstan program is just 1 year old. People will be bringing home the first kids (hopefully)this summer. Their Russian program is successful, and hopefully the Kstan program is as well. They do have staff permanently there who are experienced in that country. Is this a bad risk to go with a place that has an unproven year old program?? What are some other agency suggestions you all know about for Kstan, if you care to PM me?? I am getting such great useful info reading all the pages and pages of posts!!

Thanks so much,
Luckypetersen

Dear Lucky,

I wish you best of luck on your adoption endeavors. I hope some folks on this board can chime in. I read a few days ago that the JCICS. Joint Council for International Adoption Services. JCICS2 has just closed down Kazakhstan(I believe temporarily) to Americans. I would find out about this first before you move ahead. I dont want you to be disappointed. I am sure that early tomorrow you will get folks who can give you a clearer picture of the situation. I wishyou the best wherever you land.

Don't worry about the suspension, its not a big deal according to many agencies and by the time you have your dossier together it should be over.

I would go with a BIG agency in Kaz, I'll pm you a few. Its very important to have the best contacts in Kaz and really only a proven agency can guarantee that. I would really recommend going with an experienced agency, I think everyone on this list would agree.

Agency location

Kazakhstan has beautiful children. I adopted my son there last year. He's a sweetie.

I adopted from Russia in 2004 and my agency was on the other side of the country. For my son's adoption, same thing. I was getting everything from California and sending it there - from my home in Atlanta.

There's really nothing that can't be done with e-mail, fax, or fed-x. You will need a local agency for the homestudy, that's all. When you decide on the big agency, they can probably recommend someone in your town to do the homestudy.

By the time your homestudy and the dossier are done, the adoptions should be going again. Both my adoptions took about a year, start to finish.

Worst case scenario, changing countries is not a big deal, once the homestudy is done and you've gathered stuff for the dossier. Lots of folks switch if their country closes down.

Good luck!
Dee

Whatever agency you are considering, they should give you contact numbers. If they don't, RUN! Call the people on that list and ask all of your concerns. There is good and bad with every agency, just make sure that the people on the list, even with the bumps would recommend the agency.
