Gender Bias
I adopted a 10 year old boy last year and several times he has made remarks indicating to me he has the same sexist biases not uncommon in Kazakhstan. He thinks cooking is women's work, for instance.
Anyone else encounter this in their boys? How did you deal with it? I actually did a post about it on my site, just because it bothers me. Dee

Children are for the most part a product of their environment where this is concerned.
My husband and his two brothers gew up in an home where they were expected to help set the table, clean the kitchen and help with chores around the house. Therefore he and his brothers are wonderful, very helpful husbands to their wives. My husband helps cook, clean and do laundry. On the other hand, there are my three step brothers that grew up in a home where my stepmom and step sister cooked and did all the cleaning. They did yard work, that's it. While they are great men, they refuse to help around the house and do believe the cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping etc is a woman's job. My boys (6 and 9) have chores, help set the table and clear it after supper. They both make their own waffles (even though it's just a matter of putting in the toaster) on school mornings. Your son is a little older, but start instilling it now, it's not too late. Good luck!
