Parent Age

Heard that there is a possibility of Kazakhstan restricting parent age to 50. I'm 44 and hubby is 52. We are well into the Kaz process but are VERY concerned. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

This is from the travel.state.gov web site dated May 2007:
"ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ADOPTIVE PARENTS: Officially, Kazakhstan allows both single and married people to adopt, and there are no age requirements other than that an unmarried prospective adoptive parent must be at least 16 years older than the child s/he intends to adopt. In practice, however, some unmarried prospective adoptive parents have found it difficult to adopt, as have prospective parents over age 60. "

Some agencies may have other requirements. The one we used says a maximum age of 50.

Check with your agency for peace of mind.
Good Luck

Agency

Your agency should be able to put your mind at ease about this. Call them. If you haven't chosen an agency, be very up front about it before you sign anything.

Sometimes agencies will have their own rules which have nothing to do with the rules of the country. I know of one agency who won't work with a single mom who already has one kid, which is ridiculous.

Good luck!
Dee

I've heard there is a new law being considered that is expected to pass that will require adoptive parents to both be under 50. I'm not sure of the timing but several agencies are lowering their age limits. I really hope it doesn't affect you.
