Heart Pursuing another adoption while in process for China?

HI THERE! I am new to this board. My husband and I are currently logged-in for adoption from China through CCAI. However, our log-in date is spring of 2007. We do not have any other children and would very much like to build our family through international adoption. We are prepared for an extremely long wait for our baby from China. We are therefore now exploring the possibility of pursuing yet another adoption, while still staying on course for China. Has anyone on this board had experience with this??? I thought that I had noted, somewhere amongst this forum, that there were maybe one or two others who were in the same situation?? Please advise if you are able. I'd so appreciate any help that you could offer!

-Lisa

Hmm

I have seen posts from other folks who are doing the same thing, since the wait for China is so long, however, maybe not on this forum? I belong to some Yahoo groups as well.

I have not been in your shoes, so I cannot really advise, but I have a few comments. Since I adopted my daughter from Russia in 2004 I have done a lot of research and I am active on several boards. I also just came home with a 10 year old boy from Kaz this past May.

If you are willing to accept a child with minor special needs from China - clubfoot, cleft palate, hernia, etc. - you can bring home a child pretty quickly. I know the name of an agency who does a lot of placements. PM me if you'd like to know more.

If you want to pursue adoptions in Russia or Kaz and just wait it out in China, I suggest you pursue adoption of a boy. A toddler boy would probably be pretty fast referral. The waits for baby girls are much longer.

Good luck!
Dee

I did not realize a hernia was considered special needs in China.

Our son from Kaz had a groin hernia which was easily fixed as soon as we came home (with a 5 minute operation) and has no visible scar....unless you REALLY look close. So if that's all it takes to avoid a 2 year wait, go for it!

I am currently logged in for China and thinking about Kaz as a concurrent adoption. I have done enough research to choose a Kaz agency. My China agency is not sure if they will ok it, but my Kaz agency is fine with it. Once you finish your dossier to KAz which won't take long since you have already done similar once, it is usually 6 months or so to travel (some faster), but it is agency dependent so choose your agency very carefully.
There is a risk that China will decide not to allow concurrent adoptions and you will have to pull your China dossier so go into this with eyes open.

Someone mentioned CHina SN- once you are logged in, you can't switch agencies anymore so you have to go with your agency's prgram or just stay NSN. Even if an agency has a child they can't match, you can't switch-

Kaz and China

I have a friend who is doing the same thing. They adopted #1 from Kaz. Almost at the same time they submitted a dossier to China. China started taking so long that they are going for #3 (or maybe #2 in birth order) from Kaz. PM me if you'd like their info and I will e-introduce you.

Wow, I feel a bit like I've stepped into the Twilight Zone. I am also Hopeful Heart on another board, am also LID for China in spring of '07 and am also researching a concurrent adoption from Kaz. I pretty much could have written your original post and in fact that's what I registered tonight to do. I guess great minds think alike.

My China agency is on board and this week the CCAA confirmed they're ok with concurrents (YAY!) so I'm feeling much more comfortable today about this idea. Where are you in the process? Debating the idea, researching agencies or actually moving forward with compiling a dossier?

We were in the same boat as you. Our China LID is Jan 2007 - also with CCAI. We are now in process with Kaz. Feel free to PM me if you'd like more info. Sorry for the late response!

China to Kazakhstan

We're in the same boat. Dossier in to China in April 2007, but we're now processing papers for Kazakhstan. It's not only the immense wait that appears likely to be ahead, but the fact that anything could happen with China adoption in the meantime, including China deciding to cancel the program for any reason or no reason. I mostly don't want to risk finding myself sitting here three years from now back at square one.

We're using the same agency as we used for China (Childrens House International), and finding the process to be far easier and quicker this time around, because (a) Kazakhstan's requirements are not nearly as extensive, (b) we can piggyback considerably on the work we already did for China (e.g. home study, medical tests, immigration approvals), and (c) just because we're more experienced about how to do things now.

I imagine there are many others doing or considering doing the same thing. Good luck to you.

We are currently logged in to China,(LID 9/13/2007). We will be sending our dossier for Kaz tomorrow. So I guess i will now be paper pregnant with twins (sort of). We plan to stay the course with China but it looks like that adoption will be 3 years from now. The Kaz program is soooo different than China. What an adventure.

I Know that China is saturated, Kaz is faster than China, moreover, the children are similar to chinesses. Is neccesary 3 travels to Kaz, the first is about Know the baby, the second is about de trial, and the 3th is to go back with the baby.
I explain this and more in Doctor Floyd en Kazajstan
Regards
