Adoption Doctor Moved -Leaving in 6 Days!

Hi,

My husband and I are leaving on the 8th! We just found out the Dr we were suppose to use to look at meds., pictures of the baby and give us advice before we left has moved across country. We paid her $500 in April and we never got a notice that she was moving, never offered a refund and have not been able to get in touch with her at all. Now we are leaving in 6 days and don't have a Dr. so does anyone know of a someone in upstate NY who we could call last minute?

Do you think we even need one? I've read lots of books on development but it's hard to know what to expect/look for with a baby form an orphanage. I guess I could post that subject in a new thread.

Thank you! As you can see I have lots of questions/issues! We are feeling a bit overwhelmed!

Most families contact adoption medicine specialists based on their reputation, not their location. All of the good adoption medicine specialists accept faxes and overnight packages with referral documents and/or other materials, review them within 24-48 hours, and have a phone conference with the family at that point. They do not have to practice in the state where the family resides.

We choose not to consult with an international adoption doctor.
I supose it really depends on how comfortable you are with possible issues in a child. We read lots of info and took lots along to read during the flight on how to evaluate a child. We traveled completely blind, only knowing there were some children in our criteria to meet, I am sure it would have offered some peace of mind on a few things for us, but we left it in God's hands.

The children in KZ are taken good care of, but they may have some delays and also may have some conditions.

We did have our pediatrian lined up when we left so we could call if we had medical questions/problems while in country with our child.

Good Luck and Safe Travels!!
