Any one use/using airline miles

My grandfather said we can use his airline points for out trip, we are leaving on Mon. the 8th and we don't know if we should use them or use the travel agency, what do you suggest??

We can always use them for our return trip too.

Check

I was looking into this not too long ago and there are rules about how many points can be transferred. Check on it before you get too excited.

I have been checking into using a family member's miles, too.. In addition to a transfer limit, you also have to pay most companies to transfer miles, but if your grandfather has enough miles, he may be able to "buy" the ticket for you in your name (rather than transfer them to you and you "buy" the ticket).. I am sure this depends on the individual airline, but when we spoke to US Air (part of the "Star Alliance" miles network, I think) they told my sister she could purchase a ticket in my name with her miles.

I'll warn you that we tried to use miles for both of our adoptions and were unable to...I know some people have pulled it off but they usually require you to have a nonchangeable, nonrefundable ticket which would be silly when adopting since you never really know when you'll be coming home.

Good luck trying to use miles, especially on short notice. Most airlines only have a very limited number of seats they release for use for miles and they get booked well in advance. Also, may times those seats or non-changeable, non-refundable. For your first trip, you definitely want tickets that can be changed. Call Golden Rule travel. Anyone there can help you find the best deal for the fully changeable tickets.
