Hello from Karaganda
Hello all,
We have been in Karaganda now for two weeks. I can't say enough great things about Karaganda and Kazakhstan in general. I won't lie, there have have been some bumps along the way, however in saying that, our experience has been that the doctors, coordinators and all involved don't just care about finding parents for their children, but finding parents who will love them. They truly care that you connect with a child and that you feel strongly this is the child for you. About the process. We met two babies, both 8 months old. Truth is we were not drawn to either immediately. They did start off asking us immediately which child we wanted to spend time with. We told them we needed time to think. When they could tell we were flustered we were told there was one more child we could meet but it would be a few days. We decided to spend time with one of the girls we met that first day. The connection never happened and the reason for that is because my friend arrived the following week and new pretty instantly that the child we had spent time with was meant to be hers. We did meet the third little girl and she melted our hearts. Further details will have to wait, but we couldn't be happier. I will check in periodically. If any of you will be in the Karaganda area in the near future, I will be staying the entire time so I would love to meet you. Oh and one more thing. I have seen lots and I mean lots of healthy children!

Wow, I am so excited for you!! Thank you for posting as we will be going to Karaganda also! We will be going to Malutka. If this is where you are, I wish there was a way for you to take pictures of our possible baby but It could be any child under 1 year. We will be going in May-June (hopefully). It's wonderful that you found the right baby for you!
Do you have a blog? Thanks again! |

How did you get to Karaganda?
Hi--
Good luck with your adoption process!! We are hoping to go to Karaganda to adopt a baby, because we also want to visit an orphanage there and meet a girl that my friends hosted a while back. I'm trying to find an agency that works in that region, and one that people have good experiences with. Would anyone there or going there send me a private message about your agency and your experiences with it? Thanks! |

Lovestruck, are you still in Karaganda? We are here now as well and going to Maluka to see our son every day. We are staying in an apartment in the center of town. How about you?

it's lovestruck
Hey
This is the first time I've been on the boards since I stopped in to say I was here. Michelle, I wonder how we could get in touch with each other. We are at the Nez.....(still don't know how to spell it, baby house). After all of this time paperwork issues are taken care of finally and we have court tomorrow. Can't wait to share more with everyone. I have enjoyed Karaganda and can't say enough positive things about the caretakers and the children here. Flowerchild, when are you headed this way? I don't know when I will get to stop in again and check the boards, but I will try to do it soon.

We are at Malutka, and have been told court is next week. We have had a good experience as well, and have our 7 year old (born in Karaganda) with us. One of our new son's caregivers was also our older son's, so that was a nice suprise. They are happy to see our 7 year old doing so well and he is happy that he got to see his borth country. Where is your orphanage in relation to Malutka? I have no idea. Our apatment is about 8 blocks from the Ramstore.

It's so nice that you are dropping in to say hi! We are going to be at Malutka also and are waiting for travel dates. Hopefully within the next few weeks!
Are there many babies available??? How's the weather? Do they were shorts or capris there? We were told no, but I'd like to know from someone who is there. Thanks! ![]() |

We've had weather here ranging from the 50s to 80s. I brought capris, and have seen women in them. I have also seen a lot of people in jeans which we were told people don't wear. We brought jeans for inside the apartment, they do not wear them outside. We were here in 2000 and it was 105 degrees. They didn't even wear shorts then!
There are a lot of babies here, but I don't know how many are available. They seem to set certain children aside for different agencies, but I could be wrong. We were shown three children, and we pretty much knew Alex was our little guy. He is in room number 6, and has some great caregivers. We are hoping to leave next Karaganda next Thursday. Good luck!
