Why do the agencies differ so much on the procedures and travel times to adopt from Kyrgyzstan? I am very interested in this country. I am confused though, because I have read horror stories recently about the state of the country. I have also read that if you plan on adopting from there expect to pay some bribes. Would anyone who has adopted from Kyrgyzstan recommend it to me?

Kyrgyzstan is just opening to adoption, I believe if you look under the International Adoption Support area of this board you'll find a link to a Yahoo group for people adopting from there. Adoption.com doesn't have a specific area for it yet. I don't think many of us on this board would be familiar with the Kyrgzstan process.

I would absolutley recommend Kyrg, I brought my daughter home in 7 mos and she is healthy, beautiful and smart. (She is 11 mos old and we have been home 8 weeks) I definitely did not pay any bribes!

I believe the govt requires two trips, my agency does things by the book, not sure how other agencies get around the "bonding trip" and the 4 week waiting period.

The govt is like any post communist, third world govt, no better, no worse. There were some demnstrations recently about promsies not kept but the Pres signed a new constitution and the people are appeased.

Of course, as we all know, there are no guarantees with any intl adoption program!
