LOI Travel

I am finishing up my homestudy and dossier paperwork and hoping I can get everything done in the next 2-3 weeks. The question I really wanted to know is, when I get the LOI how much time will I probably have before I travel? In other words, could I get the LOI on October 1 and it says I must travel on October 10th? Or do they usually give at least a month or two? Does the LOI give a specific date I must be in the region, or will they say a period of time like October 1-31?

I adopted a girl from Russia in 2004. The reason I ask is that when I was notified by that agency about my court date for my daughter I only had two weeks to scramble around and get ready to leave, and if I might have that again I want to be prepared…

Thanks,
Dee

You usually travel within 2 weeks, but you should know a few weeks before you get your LOI that it is coming.

We only had

12 days! And believe me, we would have hopped on the plane sooner . We had everything organized (visa papers, money collected, packing, etc.) when we heard the Letter of Invite was being processed. With my daughter (a few years back), we had about 17 days.

So my question would be about how long from MOE to LOI? That way once you know it's coming you can start to plan?Is this the same if traveling blind?

Good Question. My dossier is at the MFA for 2 weeks now.

Once it clears that then it goes to MOE and then to region for LOI. Once it gets to region, should I estimate 2-3 weeks before we leave.

I am a little confused.

It varies by each dossier. It is usually around 2 months from Consulate to LOI. But I have seen it take 6 weeks, and sometimes 3 1/2 months.

Timeline

It does seem to differ depending on the situation. Our agency told us 6-8 weeks from the time our dossier was sent to Kaz until we'd receive our LOI. It turned out to be almost 8 weeks exactly. We left for Almaty 9 days after receiving our LOI conf. #'s because our daughter had just come off of the registry and we didn't want to take any chances.
