What arrests would prevent adoption in Kaz?

I have read that Kaz is getting very strict in past arrests . My husband had a DWI 13 years ago ( young and stupid) He was arrested and then the charges were dismissed and no fines were paid.
t
Does anyone think this could prevent us from adopting?

I know we are not the only couple that is worried about this?

What are your thoughts? Someone let me know that you are in the same boat.

We have already got INS back and had no problems.

Hi!

I don't think it will be a problem, but I'd let your agency know, so they are not surprised and it doesn't look like you're trying to hide something if it shows up on your state or local police clearance. They should be able to write something to adequately explain the situation. We were in a similar situation only the incident was about 2 months before we started the process, not in the distant past. Nothing ever came up on any clearances we did.

Best of luck with your adoption.

The bad news - my agency says NO arrests allowed in Kaz.
The good news - my husband, a hothead in his youth, had two arrests, charges were dismissed in both and nothing showed up on his FBI background check. However, my arrest for shoplifting a can of tunafish in 1980 for a sorority initiation did show up (wasn't dismissed, I got PBJ)- so Kaz is out for us. I would request a copy of your FBI background check and see what is on there, that is really the issue, because it's now required by Kaz, right?

I have requested through the state of MD to get my record expunged - don't know yet if it will work. PM me if youw ant more info.

I wanted to add - we got our INS approval with no problem also, I think because (although we didn't know it at the time) only my arrest showed up. We did disclose all the arrrests to them, did you?

If you didn't, they definitely, no doubt, would have contacted you for an explanation if it showed up.

We did dosclose it to INS and had no delays in getting our letter. I have not found anywhere that it is all arrests and my agnecy seems to think it will be okay and may not show up on FBI. It is on our HS with a explantaion.

WHere did your agency get that all arrests count. Have you looked into that before you give up on KAZ?

Thanks.

You should be good then- go ahead and request your FBI check, I'm sure it will be clear. Can you get your hs agency to do a copy of the hs without the arrest info? Mine did that for us-

My agency just says, no arrests! They are strict. They don't mind knowing about it, but they won't let the countries know and my FBI background check shows it.

So we are switching to a new program for my agency, Kyrgysztan, below Kaz, next to China. Just opened, healthy kids, Central Asia.

I wonder how my HS agency will feel about this? I read it this am and all it says it that we told her about it and what actually happened and then it says that all charges were dropped and there is no arrest report on his GBI.

Do you really think it is imprtant to have that taken off. Could they let us get over there, bond with our child and then tell us no because of that?

I, too, think it's better if the agency takes that info out of the homestudy. I can't see any reason to put it in there if it doesn't show up on any police or FBI clearance.

For sure have your FBI done first before you decide anything. Next I would talk to my agency and see what they say if it does appear. i have heard conflicting reports about whether an arrest is okay to have on your record to adopt.

Babypayne, maybe every agency is different.

I will tell you, though, had I known my husband's arrests showed up nowhere (how I wish someone had told me to run the FBI report BEFORE starting the process!) I would NOT have disclosed it. There is simply no record anywhere.

I hope to send FBI off this week and will see if it shows. I really pray that this will not affect us and if it does not show up that our HS agencies will remove it. Thanks.

Home study language

Hi.

I did not have any FBI report issues (or really other issues, so far - whew!). Be sure to follow the advice to put "Please expedite - Adoption" on your envelope. I FedEx'd mine and put an overnight return envelope and had it back in under 2 weeks.

But I did want to comment on the homestudy. I think my HS agency did a very thorough job on my study. But once they finished, it was clear that their goal was not only to do the HS, but to make sure all the language would be okay for my adopting country. They traded a couple drafts with my placing agency. If yours is the same, then I would not worry to much about asking for a change - they really want to make the process work.

You know what? The standard fingerprint card that the FBI will accept can usually be found at most local police stations! It's white with blue printing. Don't wait! put "For Intl Adoption" on the envelope and the request - I got mine back in 5 days.
