I would love to hear from anyone out there who has adopted an older child from Kazakhstan.
We have just completed our application to adopt a 6 year old boy. We are excited but nervous. Comments, please!!! ![]() |

My brother adopted a 6 year old though the kidsave program. He is very well adjusted, no bonding issues. He is struggling with school. He was held back to give him a better chance. You may need to look at special services from your school during the first few years to help him catch up.
Otherwise, the child is doing wonderfully! Is is sweet, good with younger children, etc. Blssings on your adoption! Kay |

We adopted an eight year old girl this past February. It has worked out really well--she is adjusting beautifully, no major attachment issues or problems. Plenty of bumps in the road, but nothing traumatic--like I have read from some other folks. I think the key is having an agency you can trust to screen the children very closely and that has a good working relationship with the people in the country/orphanage from which you are adopting. If you would like to know more and see a website that we put together about this life event, email me at:

Hi Laurenam,
I sympathize with you. We are also trying to find someone who has adopted an older child from Kazakhstan, specifically Almaty. We will be going over there to adopt our 11 year old daughter at around the end of November. We've gotten some information from couples who have adopted babies, but I believe our experience will be a little different because she is able to make her own choices. If there is anyone who can share their experience, with a similar situation, we'd love to hear from you. ~SAodptkazakhst |

We adopted an eight year old, not from Almaty, but we have a website that chronicles the adoption of an older child.
