leaving for Kazakhstan

We recieved our LOI and are on our way. It has been a long road and we are so excited to finally get to go meet our son. We fly out on Fiday May 27th! Does anyone have any ideas of little things that we could use that we might not think of?

Dawn

Dawn,

CONGRATULATIONS! It has been almost a year since we left to get our son, so I remember well that excitement.

As far as what to bring...if I remember correctly you will be going to Almaty. They have everything there. Don't worry if you have forgotten something.

The only exception would be the medicines that are recommended for adoption travel. They probably have them there, but you won't be able to read the package. Also, if your child needs something like antibiotic cream you don't want to have to run around the city to find it.

We didn't regret any of the entertainment things we brought. There is a lot of free time. Books, cards, word puzzles, portable DVD player, etc. all helped pass the time.

My final suggestion is peanut butter and grape jelly. Even in Almaty we couldn't find them. Bread is about 20 cents so you can make your self a cheap lunch if you don't feel like going out. I never thought eating in a restaurant would get "old", but we got tired of going out to eat all the time.

Please keep us posted.

How long was your dossier at the MFA before you got your LOI? Ours has been there a couple of weeks, and we just wonder how much longer we have to wait!!!!

Kazakmom,

Thanks! I totally agree. That was him when we arrived in Kaz last June. His cheeks are still as kissable, but now they are usually full of crackers. (His favorite word!)
