Question What foods can you take from U.S. into Kaz? WERE FINALLY GOING!!!

I need to know what foods items we can bring into Kaz from the U.S. We heard that it is good to bring comfort foods~I'm thinking a case of Cliff Bars won't hurt, and chocolate...! Is it allowed to come into Kaz? What are the rules...I would hate to pack it all up, only to have it taken from me at the airport over there. We anticipate a 3 week stay (we are going in 2 trips for this adoption). Any answers on this would be greatly appreciated as we are due to travel NEXT WEEK! Obviously, need to pack! proverbs

food

We are leaving in approximately 2 weeks. After talking to other families who travelled, we are taking peanut butter, packages of the Lipton noodles/sauce, rice mixes, power bars, instant oatmeat, and single serve coffee packets. We have a woman who will cook lunch and dinner for us at our apt, but we still wanted some comfort food. Depending on where you are going, there are some recognizable brands, especially in Almaty I am really looking forward to eating out in Kaz, should be a fun experience! Best of luck on your travels, where are you going?

Shymkent food

We adopted our daughter from Shymkent. While we brought peanut butter, muffin bars, and a couple of small comfort foods, we found the Shymkent grocery store to have some surprising things!

Cookies imported from Germany...great comfort food. Variety of candy bars, chips, etc. The bakery section was fantastic, with a lot of pastries. No need to bring soup or noodles, we found them there and prepared them at our apartment. There is a brand of soup mix called California, which is surprisingly very good!

Also, as far as water goes, we tasted a lot bottled water before we settled on a nice, cheap brand. Tassay is available in Shymkent, although I did not see it in Almaty.

Hope this helps!
Andrea

We just returned from Aqtobe yesterday. My advice would be not to bring too much food. You can get almost everything over there, assuming you're not too picky of an eater. There was even Dove soap in our local supermarket (now I know you're not going to eat that, but ...). We were glad to have our jar of peanut butter along. We brought it down to the hotel restaurant each morning to put on our toast. I also brought hot chocolate. The other stuff I brought really turned out to be unnecessary as we found plenty of good things to eat. Best of luck - travel light!! Lots of overage charges for overweight baggage on the in-country flights ... and they seem to make the rules up as they go along!
