Condition and age of children adopted in Kazakhast

I see some postings (elsewhere) where the process seemed to be complete in 12 days or less. and yet I have read twice of the stay becoming 4 weeks! Help! My sister-in-law is in Kaz now. They have choosen a 6 month old(they tell me this is the minimum age for adoption) and a 2 year old. Their stay is expected to be 6 weeks. Both children are healthy and seem to be developmentally on target.

Yes, there is a new law stating that the child must have been in the orphanage for at least 3 (I've also read 4) months - so as to be sure of abandonment/relinquishment of child. Also, the govt requires a 2 week stay to bond with your child, and to interview with the local govt to make sure of where the child is going, etc. Then, you have to go to Moscow to the US Embassy for your child's US Visa, this also takes a few days... Hope this info helps.
