Question Umbelical Hernia

Hi, Our 10 month old daughter waiting in Haiti has an unbelical hernia, but it looks small. Does anyone have any advice about these? I believe it may need surgery. We are going to visit her at the end of the month and then we can take pictures and video back to our pediatrician, but I was wondering if any of your children ever came home with this. Thanks!

thanks!

Thank you for the link, I couldn't find anything when I searched the web. It seems like we can wait to see if it goes away and if it is still there by her second birthday, she may need surgery. Good to know

I saw you other post about questioning her age...has anything been resolved? As a mom of 3--and friend to many with young children, I felt like that picture was definitely an older child. Maybe a year or even closer to 2yrs. I hope that this does not keep you from her. She's beautiful! And I believe she's in your life on purpose! Best of luck to you!

My son was adopted from Haiti, and he is now 18 months old. He came home a week before his first birthday. His umbilical hernia was quite pronounced when he was an infant, and it has almost completely resolved itself. Most of the children that I saw in his orphanage had umbilical hernias of varying degrees. I really don't know much about them, except that if they are not resolved by age two or three, surgery is an option.

I know there is a Haitian board in this forum, but there are also some great Haitian adoption chat groups on Yahoo! as well. They are much more active than I've seen this forum's Haitian board, and there are hundreds of members of each group. Feel free to PM me if you'd like more information about these Yahoo! chat groups.

Congratulations on your Haitian angel!

hernias

hernias are not uncommon in children or adults.....

my stepson had a double groin hernias that required surgical intervention....this was about 18yrs ago. Nowadays surgical procedures have become more simplified while being optimally effective....many such surgeries are done on an out patient basis because they are Simple with relatively little complication.

you'll be surprised how quickly your child will bounce back.....
