Hi Group!
I was wondering if anyone knows if adoption subsidies only apply to special needs children adopted from the US or if internationally adopted children can also qualify? I have emailed and called a few people regarding this in AZ, but no responce so far. We are in the begining process of adopting a child from Haiti who may end up having special needs due to low birth weight and other factors. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks ![]() |

Adoption Subsidies
I work in Childrens' Services. Regarding Adoption Subsidies alot depends on what the Special Need is evaluated professionally as.
It also varies state by state. Travel is usually Domestic because International is 2K. The Subsidies that are listed on Photolistings in the US are usually or primarily because the kids have been in the Foster Care System. I adopted a Daughter from India. My Daughter receives Special Education Services through my local County Office of Eduation of both Speech and Occupational Therapies, but this is classifed under as me being a tax a tax payer not as Adoptions. A lot of the critical Therapies ie RAD/Attachment or Clinical in most cases the child has been Sexually Abused. Which are needed in International are paid out of pocket for International Adoptions.

This varies state by state, In our state, internationally adopted children with special needs do not qualify for a monthly maintenance subsidy. They do qualify for a one time subsidy of up to $1500 for non-recurring adoption related expenses. Check with your stste's adoptio nunit.
