Travel to Russia on British Airways

We will be traveling to Moscow later this month on British Airways to pick up our adoptive son, Sergey. Since we are flying from Dallas, we have to switch airports at our connecting location, London. We fly into Gatwick then transfer to Heathrow. I have two questions for anyone who has made a similar trek:

1. What is the easiest way to transfer from Gatwick to Heathrow (we have a 5 hour layover)?

2. On the way back, we fly into Heathrow, have an overnight in London, then fly back via Gatwick. What is the easiest way to get from Heathrow airport to a hotel next to Gatwick at 11pm at night?

Thanks!

Smile Advice from English/American

My mom is English. Everytime we go to see family we use Gatwick. Knowing how awful traffic is and having driven in London and all over England, I suggest you use a taxi or airport bus. You could take the train, but I don't suggest it. It can get very crowded and sometimes it's not easy to follow the maps (my uncle always gets lost). Since you are staying at a hotel on the way back, use the hotel's shuttle service. By the way, I have just a few hints: Hold on tight; don't look when going through the tunnels; and if you have a lot of luggage, warn the taxi service when you call them for pick-up. My sister almost lost it in the tunnels (6" between the wall and the bus)! Is there a reason why they didn't send you through just one airport in London? Gatwick and Heathrow aren't exactly close to each other.

Good luck! Oh, if someone offers to "knock you up in the morning" they want to know if you want a wake-up call (should have seen my husband's face when my Grandmother asked him that one!)!

Changing airports

When I was looking at where to fly through (haven't traveled yet), I saw that you had to change airports if you went through London. I asked a friend at work (from England) and she said it isn't a big deal. She said that there is a shuttle that will take you from one airport to the other.

Don't know if this is accurate or not. I would ask your travel agent. My friend sounded like this was pretty common in London.

We are flying BA next week, from Philadelphia to heathrow--we do not have to change airports, just planes. same thing on return trip. We are staying at the Marriott Residence Inn near Heathrow, we were told it would be a quick cab ride from there.
I wonder why you have to switch airports?
Best wishes on your trip!
Kris
