travel in taxis?
Hello All. I was just reading a thread that had to do with car seats, travelling, etc. It made me wonder... if you and your new toddler (say 18 mos.) were going to travel to another city and you'd be taking cabs once you're there, how do you do it?? Do you bring a car seat and lug it all over the city with you each day? (I did see the sit and stroll, but it doesn't look like a very good stroller for all-day use.) Obviously, I'm a first-timer with all this! Thanks!

We don't use a car seat in taxis -- It would take forever to install them!
It's not the safest thing, but I don't know of a practical solution. When we picked up our daughter in India we had a 2.5 hour car ride. My DH held her the whole way back to the hotel. She didn't ride in a car seat until she was on the plane. |

We used taxis while we were there to travel around before our son was with us. Once we picked him up and drove back to Moscow I held him the entire way in the car- once we were in Moscow we used a stroller provided by our agency- his first car seat was in the car on the way home back in the states.

How about if you were to take your baby on a trip to a place like New York- would you just hold him in cabs?

We just got back from a city, and yes, we held our daughter in the cab. I think taxis are exempt from car seat laws.

india and child carrying
People cartry whole families on motor bikes, they don't care how you transport your child in india. Most indian travel is by way of train or rickshaw. it is a real pain in the *** to have a car seat which doesn't fit anyware for a rickshaw. I would recomend an "umbrella stroller" colapses very small and light. Can attach to backpack. Although many here may not think this is appropriate. Buy a child leash. They are very useful the moment a child wants to walk in an area which you do not know well.
As for NYC, a car seat is required, for a taxi...not a bus. Youcan check on line with the port authority site of NYC for more information. Most people in NYC do not use taxi's unless a major crisis. Buses and trains are probably more fun for a young child. Mostly you need a stroller. trhe smallest lightest one, will fare best in travel. nina |
